Apply To College - With A Video
Theres a new trend around regarding college applications. Several schools are beginning to offer the option of including a self-made video.
The first school to promote this is Tufts University, but several other large schools are following the idea, and you know it wont be long before it becomes common with many schools. The essay part of any college application is tough. People worry about them and work on them all winter and pray they get it right. Its a critical part of the application process and a way to draw the schools attention to you. While a one or two minute video wont completely replace the essay, if youre creative and already make videos, it is a great way to show off a little bit. Some colleges are concerned that adding videos might start a move to favor those who own or might have access to good equipment, but with camcorders and editing software so readily available, the argument does not hold up. Most anyone either has the equipment or can borrow from friends or even their school.
Make the video work in conjunction with what you already want to say about yourself and make it pertain to the essay. It will give the university an opportunity to see how you put things together and how creative you might be. The early results show that this option is being used by more women than men and a huge amount by applicants who also want to apply for financial aid. Colleges are so competitive today not only for entry but for financial assistance that the video is a cool way to get an edge.
Even colleges that dont formally have videos as part of the application process are accepting and looking at the ones they get.
